ReqXChanger Overview

ReqXChanger creates bi-directional traceability based on the ReqIF standard between Requirements Management Tool and Model Elements.

With ReqXChanger, you can:

• Keep Requirements and Architecture in sync.
• Trace the Architecture Elements that result from Requirements.
• Perform several kinds of analyses
  • Impact analysis.
  • Coverage analysis.
• Generate documents from Requirements management tools, including Architecture Elements.

Transfer Requirements to a Modeling Tool

Export ReqIF-compatible Requirements data from a Requirements Management Tool.
ReqXChanger transforms those Requirements into UML/SysML Elements so those Requirements can be visualized in a UML Diagrams and linked to the corresponding Model Elements in a UML tool.

Transfer representations of Model Elements and Diagrams associated with Requirements into a Requirements Management tool.
ReqXChanger encapsulates these items for visualization in the Requirements Management environment. See how Requirements have been implemented in modeling, and perform coverage and impact analysis.

Detect changes

When synchronizing, ReqXChanger detects any changes to Requirements that are linked to Model Elements.
Model Elements linked to a changed Requirement are tagged with a "Suspect Link" icon, indicating that these Model Elements should be reviewed to see if there are adjustments required to reflect the updated Requirement.

How does ReqXChanger work ?

• The user exports a ReqIF file from a Requirements Management tool using ReqIF export.
• The user runs ReqXChanger and loads the ReqIF file.
• ReqXChanger reads the Elements in the ReqIF file and creates/updates UML Elements in the Modeling tool.
• The user creates/updates/deletes links between Model Elements (e.g., Operations, State machines, Interfaces) and Requirements.
• The user runs ReqXChanger. It creates a ReqIF file from the UML/SysML Model Elements.
• The user imports the ReqIF elements in the Requirements Management tool.

Implementation Notes

Requirements are owned by the Requirements Management tool

They must not be edited in the UML tool. Edits are not brought back in the Requirements Management tool.

Model Elements and links to Requirements are owned by the UML tool

Links updated in the Requirements Management tool are not brought back in the UML tool.

Configuration of ReqIF export is only needed the first time

Future synchronizations are simpler (but still a manual export/import of ReqIF file).
