Create a Windchill Context

A Windchill Context can be created to expose a set of versioned artifacts to external OSLC applications. The versioned artifacts are Windchill Part versions that the configuration will retrieve by leveraging the Windchill filter capabilities. To create a Windchill Context:

  1. Locate the Windchill Contexts table in the Windchill product or library page.
  2. Click on the "+" button to open the creation modal.
  3. Select a Filter from the drop-down list. Those filters are the ones you create in the native Windchill Configuration Specification filters. Only shared filters will be available for selection. The use of private filters would prevent a user from consulting the filter if needed, if he was not the one creating it.
  4. Fill in the following identification fields:

It's important to understand the difference between a Stream and a Baseline. A Stream is a configuration that allows you to manage versioned artifacts. A Baseline is a frozen configuration of artifacts.

In Windchill, the versioned artifacts in a configuration are resolved by applying a filter on the Parts of a product or library. It is not possible to automatically determine whether a given filter will always return the same set of frozen Part versions, or if it is expected to change over time. If you are certain that you want to create a Baseline, be cautious to use a filter that will always return the same set of Part versions. If the filter can return a different set of Parts or if you don't know, select Stream.

This completes the Windchill Context creation. You can now add it to a Global Configuration in the GCM application.
