Export Overridden Properties to Stereotype

Overview

This helper allows locally overridden properties to be exported to new/existing stereotypes.

Operation

Both menu entries first collect any locally overridden properties of the currently selected element.

Exporting to Existing Stereotypes

If exporting to an existing stereotype, the Rhapsody mini-browser is invoked. Selecting a stereotype will then apply the properties to that stereotype.

Exporting to New Stereotypes

If exporting to a new stereotype, that stereotype is first created in the same package as the selected model element. If the element is at project level or the owning package is read only, then the Rhapsody mini-browser is invoked allowing you to select a package as the location for the new stereotype. The Applicable To field is automatically populated based on the source model element. Properties are then applied to that new stereotype.

Applying Properties

The helper first tries to apply a property value. If this fails (usually this only happens if the property does not exist), then the helper creates the property. This can happen when properties have been locally created on the source element either by the user or by Rhapsody internally (for example if you have used Make Default then Rhapsody will create new local properties that do not exist at all until Make Default is used).

Limitation: Rhapsody provides no information on the type of a new local property and so when the helper creates one it defaults to String.
