Creating Legends

Overview

This helper allows easy creation / editing of Legends.

Launching the Helper

The same user interface is presented whether editing an existing Legend or creating a new one.

If launched from an existing Legend, then the views (see below) in that Legend are presented.

If not launched from a Legend, then the helper checks the list of currently selected model elements as described below:

The selection must contain at least one diagram OR at least one Custom View (multiple selection of both is supported)

· If the list includes exactly one diagram, then the Legend will be created under that diagram.

· If the list includes no diagrams or multiple diagrams, then instead the Legend will be created in the same package as the first Custom View in the selection.

· If the list includes any diagrams at all then newly created Legends are also added to those diagrams as graphical elements.

· If the list includes any Custom Views, then after the Legend has been created, those Custom Views have their criteria automatically updated to include the Legend (this means that Legends on diagrams are not filtered out when the Custom Views are applied)

Legend Views

Views in a Legend are tags of type Custom View. This is useful for several reasons:

· Custom Views may not have spaces in their names (as they are Packages) but tags can.

· Views provide a filtered set of Custom Views that may be applied to the current diagram (see Applying Legends).

· Individual tags may be formatted separately on diagrams, providing a visual key (see Formatting Legends).

Editing Legends

The editor presents a table of views in the Legend:

Renaming Views

Double-click in the first cell to edit it – this allows the tag to be renamed.

Setting Custom Views

The second column provides a combo box of all Custom Views in the model, selecting one will set the tag to that Custom View.

Adding Views

Click Add New View to add a new tag to the Legend – the table updates immediately so you can name it and map it to a Custom view.
