Demonstration |
The same user interface is presented whether editing or creating a Custom View. If not launched from a Custom View, then the currently selected set of model elements is presented in the table. If launched from an existing Custom View then the current set of model elements from that Custom View are presented, along with any specific custom view filter settings.
In Rhapsody, Custom Views are new terms based on Package and so can only be created at project/package level. The helper will create the new Custom View in the same package as the first element in the list of selected elements. After creation the Custom View is highlighted in the model browser (and may of course be relocated anywhere). The Custom View is created when the “From” button is clicked (see below)
The editor presents a table of model elements that could be used as the criteria for the view (if editing an existing view these are the elements already in that criteria):

To add elements to the table, select model element(s) in Rhapsody, either in the browser or on diagrams, and then click Add From Rhapsody. Note that this does not (yet) affect the Custom View.
Elements may be removed from the table using the context menu, however this may not be necessary as there are other ways to determine the list of elements that will become the criteria (see below)

The Custom View is only created/updated when the From button in the Create / Update Custom View section is clicked. This is a multi-function button with several options:
· From Selected: Only elements that have their checkbox selected are used as the criteria (whether they are visible or not – see Filtering below)
· From Visible: Only currently visible elements are used as the criteria (whether they are selected or not – see Selection below)
· From Table: All the elements in the table are used as the criteria, no matter their visibility or selection status.
The currently visible elements may be filtered by typing a regular expression into the Filter box. Any field that matches this expression will include the element.
Selecting checkboxes may be performed individually or in bulk using Select All, Clear All and Invert Selection. Only currently visible elements are affected by these operations. These options are also available from the context menu of a table row.
Double-clicking a row will locate that element in the Rhapsody model browser. This operation is also available from the context menu of a table row.
The checkboxes in the Create / Update Custom View section correspond to the same options in the Rhapsody Custom View Features and allow additional elements to be shown / hidden over and above those in the criteria:

Created Custom Views may be used in Rhapsody in the usual ways:
· Open the Custom Views menu: View Windows Custom View
· Click the Browser filter button and select Custom View
· Right click a diagram background and select Custom View…
