Add Missing Connections

Overview

This tool allows you add connections (links / connectors / flows) between ports on diagrams. It uses the graphical co-ordinate API to manually draw them in so will succeed even when Rhapsody’s own Complete Relations fails.

Power Pack Diagram Tools Add Missing Connections

Operation

The helper first gathers the missing connection data from the current selection. A UI is then presented highlighting only the diagrams that have missing connections. By default, connections are links, connectors and flows. Flows may be omitted by setting the following property to false at package/project level:

RhapsodyPowerPack.AddMissingConnections.IncludeFlows

If the diagrams are in different packages, then packages are listed as tabs on the left with the number of diagrams that have missing connections in parenthesis. Diagrams are available as tabs at the bottom of the UI:

Adding Missing Connections

Missing connections are added per-diagram. They may be added individually or in groups by first selecting their checkbox and then clicking Add Selected, or all at once by clicking Add All. A regular expression filter may be used to filter the list (note that Add All ignores the filter and adds all missing connections even if they are filtered out)

When there are no more missing connections for a diagram, that diagram tab is removed. When there are no more missing connections in a package that package tab is removed. When there are no more packages left with missing connections then the UI is automatically closed.

Navigation

Click the Locate button next to the diagram name at the top to open the diagram in Rhapsody.

Connections may be located in the model browser by double-clicking an entry in the table or by right-clicking and using the context menu:

Limitations

Connectors

False positives may occur if the diagram is not capable of showing the connector. For example, if there are Blocks on a Block Definition Diagram and the ports of those Blocks are displayed. If there is a connector between instances of those Blocks, these will be reported as missing (since the ports are visible, but the connector is not).

Flows

There is no way to distinguish between a flow on a connector and a flow between ports through the API and no support for identifying or even adding the same to a diagram. This may lead to false positives if (for example) a model has a connector between ports and a flow on that connector. If the ports are present on a diagram, then the flow may be reported as missing.
